Small seat- belt buckles

The RNS5s is approximately 15% lighter and 20% smaller in packaging volume than previous generations. Based on TRW’s current design, it offers a standardized component design that can be adapted to local market requirements and produced using fully automated or semi-automated manufacturing processes.

The new technology is suitable for front and rear seat applications using buckles and/or anchor pretensioners. All current attachment concepts can be reused with the new model.

Attachment tape

The acrylic tape series PX5000 can be used to attach automotive exterior trim parts – body side moldings and claddings – to a variety of materials and substrates. The tape is now available to automakers, supplier customers, and accessory market manufacturers.

A foam core relieves stress during high application loads, and the product eliminates concerns with worker health and environmental issues that come with using products that require a primer.

The tape is less sensitive to cold temperatures than other tapes, making it suitable for just-in-time business models. The high-performance adhesive on both sides of the tape offers process flexibility in die-cutting operations.

Applications for px5000 acrylic

  • Low surface energy (LSE) plastics
  • Medium surface energy (MSE) plastics – including thermoplastic olefin (TPO), polypropylene plastic (PP), and PP/ethylene propylene diene monomer (EPDM) rubber
  • Medium-to-difficult automotive clear coat systems – without the need for adhesion promoter or surface pre-treatment

Vocational truck fan drive

The DuroSpeed 2-speed fan drive is designed to deliver cooling for severe operating and vocational truck applications. While on/off models provide durability and fuel efficiency for over-the-road applications, DuroSpeed reduces fan engagements for greater reliability and less noise in severe service applications.

In severe-duty applications, on/off fan drives are continually engaging and disengaging. When disengaged, engine temperatures rise quickly, causing the clutch to engage repeatedly. The pneumatically actuated DuroSpeed 2-speed fan drive is designed with a higher disengaged fan speed to prevent engine temperatures from rising too quickly. Because the fan drive engages and disengages less often, clutch life increases, noise decreases, dust buildup in the radiator is minimized, and more horsepower is available.

The DuroSpeed fan drive’s flux ring design enables this clutch to run 70°F cooler than competitive offerings, increasing bearing and liner durability.

Specifications

  • No spinning air connections to wear, inspect, or service
  • Operates at lower temperatures for longer bearing and liner life
  • Weighs 5 lb to 10 lb less than competing units
  • 11 fewer components
  • Kysor on/off fan drives can be easily retrofitted to DuroSpeed with a two-component conversion kit

High-side power switch

The TPS1H100-Q1 high-side power switch with programmable current limit allows designers to control loads in powertrain, body-electronics safety, and driver-information systems. With 20% greater current-sense accuracy versus competitive products, it offers real-time diagnosis of its loading conditions.

Texas Instruments engineers incorporate the TPS1H100-Q1 into the reference design of the company’s automotive body control module (BCM) – supporting designs for door locks; window lifts; seat heaters; heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC); lamps; and light-emitting diodes (LEDs).

Truck transmission line expansion

Designed for linehaul, Fuller Advantage Series automated 10-speed transmissions have with precision lubrication systems that eliminate oil coolers.

Small-step ratio models, with fuel-efficient shifting between 9th and 10th gears, are rated up to 80,000 lb gross combined weight rating (GCWR) only. The remaining models (direct- and over-drive) will be rated up to 110,000 lb GCWR.

The lube system reduces oil churn energy losses by nearly 33%. Less heat means no coolers, lines, or fittings are needed.

The system uses 16 pints of oil, nearly half the amount used in traditional transmissions.

Weight savings come from replacing cast iron with aluminum in several components.

Nine models

  • 3 manual transmissions with new direct-drive gear ratios
  • 2 automated models with new direct-drive gear ratios
  • 4 automated transmissions with over-drive ratios

Field effect transistor

Automotive-qualified SuperFET II MOSFET transistors support higher power ratings for onboard chargers and DC-to-DC converters in hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and all-electric vehicles.

Engineered to keep on-board battery chargers and DC-DC converters as small as possible while increasing power levels, the AEC-Q101-qualified 650V SuperFET II MOSFET family is comprised of nine devices rated for -50°C to 150°C use.

The 650V SuperFET II MOSFET has low specific resistance and enhanced switching performance. The family’s body-diode performance allows switching performance with low electromagnetic interference (EMI). Electrified vehicles are inherently harsh EMI environments, making it critical to avoid adding any EMI.
