Tap tools for threading difficult-to-cut materials
Z-taps are designed with advanced chamfer geometry and rake/flute forms. GLT-1, a multi-layered coating, produces a consistent, controllable chip formation that is released smoothly for fast and efficient chip removal. GLT-1 is structured with advanced heat-resistance characteristics, along with an outer anti-friction layer. These elements combine to produce wear resistance and sliding properties that result in improved tool life, reduced torque, optimized chip evacuation, and consistent thread finish in high-strength alloys, tool steels, and cast steels. Z-taps feature an increased number of flutes and a shortened thread section to reduce friction, and a lower cutting torque to reduce the occurrence of tap breakage and enable higher cutting speeds
Spiral flute bottoming taps for threading nickel alloys will also be featured. Taps are designed with a variable helix correction, a specially ground relief geometry in the primary cutting zone, which generates smaller, tightly rolled chips to prevent chip jamming in the tap teeth during machining.
Milling tools for turbine blade manufacturing and tool holding solutions such as the SpeedSynchro are also available.

MT to present range of CNC machines
YMT will showcase several machining centers at IMTS 2014.
Quaser Machine Tools HX-504 horizontal flexible machining center (FMC) – With an eight-pallet, shuttle-type FMC system, the 19.7" x 19.7" pallet can handle parts size of up to 31.5" in height. The center is equipped with a 240-tools automatic tool changer (ATC) capacity and full fourth axis capability with a high-speed 15,000rpm spindle and 1,000psi coolant-through-spindle capability. The high-power 40hp spindle and 2,360ipm rapid feed rate offer cutting capability and machining efficiency.
Quaser Machine Tools MF-400U 5-axis machining center – Designed for machining complicated parts that require different fixtures and setups, the 40-pallet FMC and 120-tools capacity enables continuous machining of parts for days.
YSP VL-1600ATC vertical turning center – With a rigid clamping system for ultra-heavy cutting requirements, this machine meets most titanium and Inconel turning requirements.
L&L LL-750 Big Bore CNC flatbed – With an oversized spindle bore for turning needs, the machine offers 29.5" swing-over bed, 157" of distance between center, and a 9" spindle bore.
YMT SA-45 big-bore CNC turning center – Featuring a 60°-true slant bed design with 14" spindle bore, and equipped with FANUC 31iTB controller with thread repair function, the center is designed to turn with accuracy and stability.
Quickjet AV-70S graphite machining center and the Kao Ming HIS-318 double-column machining center – Both machines are designed to meet the requirements of mold and die production.

Software package features productivity enhancements
PC-DMIS 2014 updates measurement software used for the collection, evaluation, management, and presentation of manufacturing data with 17 major and 81 minor enhancements. PC-DMIS 2014 introduces tools and technologies that will help measurement devices perform better, increase the effectiveness of inspection planning time, and make it easier to complete complex inspection routines.
The new software version includes copy parameters and paste parameters functions, which copy parameters from one feature or dimension, and paste them to other features or dimensions in the edit window, making block changes much faster.
PC-DMIS 2014 also rolls out a mini routines feature that can be used to measure a selected dimension or group of dimensions from a long part program. Mini routines offer characteristic-based measurement and the ability to measure a part of a complete measurement routine.
PC-DMIS 2014 Highlights
- One-click QuickFeature: Users can create QuickFeatures by hovering the mouse over a CAD model to highlight CAD elements. Contact auto features are created from a single click on the CAD model without using any menu options or dialog boxes.
- QuickAlign capability: Users can select valid combinations of one, two, or three features to create a quick alignment. Software will also initiate manual and DCC alignments when used at the beginning of a part program.
- QuickMeasure: Packaging QuickFeature and QuickAlign into one toolbar gives drop-down access to common measurement features, giving more screen real estate to the graphics and the measurement routine.
