Proterra launches second generation electric bus

South Carolina-built buses are lighter, longer than original transit models.

Kansas City, Missouri – Electric bus manufacturer Proterra Inc. has launched its second generation all-electric bus, The Proterra Solution, at the American Public Transportation Association Bus and Paratransit Conference. The company’s first 40 foot model, the Solution weighs less than any other transit bus available today and offers the highest fuel efficiency on the market.

The model also features a fast-charge system that keeps the bus on the road with no requirement to take them out of service for long charging periods, one-step access for ease-of-maintenance, and industry-leading ergonomics.

Proterra buses have logged more than 340,000 miles in revenue service to date. Cities currently operating Proterra all-electric buses include Stockton, Calif.; San Antonio, Texas; Tallahassee, Fla.; Worcester, Mass.; Reno, Nev., and Pomona, Calif.

“The Proterra Solution allows us to incorporate key learnings from our buses’ years in revenue service on routes across the U.S. to improve upon our already strong and proven EV tradition,” says Proterra Vice President of Marketing Heidi McNary. “With first mover advantage in the marketplace, this next-generation product incorporates industry insight that enables us to uniquely respond to the performance requirements and operational needs of transit customers.”
