XL Hybrids customers hit 1 million miles of use

Six months after release, commercial vehicle hybrid system reaches milestone.

Boston, Mass. – Commercial van and truck upfitter XL Hybrids, Inc., says fleet customers employing the XL3 hybrid electric system have driven a combined total of 1 million miles within the first six months of commercial production. A milestone for both the company and the industry, XL Hybrids’ customer fleets are now logging over 200,000 miles per month.

“There are very few alternative fuel companies that can claim such a fast uptake of their technology,” says Tod Hynes, president and founder of XL Hybrids. “The fact that 1 million miles was reached so quickly indicates our customers are taking full advantage of the reduction in fuel consumption and carbon dioxide emissions they can achieve with our innovative hybrid electric powertrain. The nation’s largest corporate fleets are accelerating deployment of our technology, including The Coca-Cola Company and FedEx. In addition, more global brands are ordering new XL Hybrid powertrains for their fleets, so we expect to rev up even more industry milestones in 2014.”

The XL Hybrids technology reduces fuel consumption and carbon dioxide emissions by 20% in urban and suburban driving for corporate fleets. With one million miles achieved, XL Hybrids’ customers have effectively saved 160 metric tons of carbon dioxide, which is equivalent to removing 70 vehicles from the road over six months, 18,000 gallons of gasoline, and 184 hours of driver productivity with fewer fuel ups.

“Another reason we achieved the one million milestone so quickly is that our customers had virtually 100% availability of their hybrid electric vehicles,” Hynes comments. “Clients have found that our vehicles have no impact on their fleet operations and maintenance schedule.”
