Compact multitasking turning centers

The Lynx 220LSY series of compact and high-speed multitasking turning centers feature a Y-axis, with the milling and drilling capabilities of the Y-axis eliminating the need for secondary machining operations. Non-lifting turret and roller-type LM guideways provide high-speed performance and accuracy.

A high-torque servomotor rotates the turret at high speeds and is non-stop bi-directional, with 0.11-second next-station indexing. Turret indexing is possible during rapid traverse movement away from the workpiece. The X-axis ball screw is pretensioned for accurate positioning and thermal stability. The thrust bearings are precision class P4 (AFBMA-B7) angular contact type. Ball screws are centered between the guideways and are directly mounted to the AC servomotors, without intermediate gears or belts, to minimize backlash.

The sub-spindle enables complete machining of parts in one setup. The full C-axis design allows milling, drilling, and tapping on the backsides of parts. The sub-spindle body is accurately positioned by a ball screw and servo motor. The spindle is supported by angular contact bearings in the front and cylindrical roller bearings in the rear. The sub-spindles can be synchronized with the main spindle at speeds up to 4,500rpm.

EZ Guide i is standard on all Doosan Lynx Series turning centers and enables users to program and run the machine on the shop floor using a conversational programming system.

Measuring system

The VICI Vision MTL 1250 X-Stream measuring system is for measuring large turned and ground cylindrical parts on the shop floor. Robust rotary movement can handle parts weighing up to 132 lb, and can measure parts up to 170mm diameter and 1,250mm long. Measuring optics are completely enclosed, retracting automatically to prevent possible damage during part loading/unloading.

The machine’s open work envelope allows for large, heavy parts. An adjustable upper tailstock moves easily on a prismatic guide for one-handed operation.

When measuring, a rapid vertical scan acquires a full part image to extract key characteristics and dimensions. X-Stream automatically rotates the part to orient it and acquire dimensions of drive shafts, camshafts, crankshafts, gear shafts, and any other cylindrical element.

Spindle coolant

ControXid 1642 is a rust protection fluid for coolant circuits based on synthetic, water-soluble corrosion inhibitors. It is extremely low-foam and delivers protection against corrosion and high resistance to fungal and bacterial contamination. The rust-protection fluid dissipates heat, is not caustic, and does not contain nitrites, chromates, heavy metals, phosphates, chlorine compounds, or amines. ControXid 1642 protects ferrous metals against corrosion and has no effect on aluminum alloys, other nonferrous metals, or mineral oil-based sealing materials. ControXid 1642 works for:

• Temporary corrosion protection during hydraulic tests
• Corrosion protection in coolant circuits
• As a coolant for machine tool spindles
