Process controller for gear hobbing, deep-hole processing

The CTM V6 tool, machine, and process monitoring system safeguards and optimizes complex production processes with aligned in-process monitoring. The flexible interface allows integration within many environments, from entry solutions with no fieldbus connections, to branched Ethernet architectures such as Modbus, PROFINET, and Ethernet/IP.

The close to metal (CTM) system uses process-dependent strategies for evaluation and control.

Instead of searching for the smallest common denominator, CTM offers a range of strategies to optimally monitor the process. Each parameter can be finely adjusted so process monitoring operates precisely from the first cut.

The CTM system, interfaced with the machine control, accepts inputs from various measuring transducers. A sensorless digital torque adaptor (DTA) captures drive data for the control, allowing for evaluation of the torque of the spindle and the feed axis.

Additional or alternative sensors are available for measuring strain and force, true power, torque, vibration and acceleration, acoustic emission, and standard power or voltage signals.

For gear hobbing applications, the CTM V6 system improves quality and extends tool life by using wear-based method safeguards instead of traditional replacement at fixed regular interval methods.

Compact measurement system for industrial environments

The WLS qFLASH compact white light solution (WLS), a non-contact, stereo vision system, quickly captures 3D measurements on the shop floor using blue light technology.

The portable system creates reports and digitizes data on the spot for analysis or direct CAD comparison. Handheld or used on a mobile pedestal, the overall optical head design is smaller, lighter, and easier-to-handle in limited or confined industrial spaces. Engineers designed the WLS qFLASH for measuring automotive plastic parts or interiors; aerospace components; closures; aluminum and metal castings; and medium sheet metal parts, molds, and dies. The system’s rapid image acquisition provides high throughput by pairing stereo vision technology with 2D image processing to measure surfaces, closed features, and edge lines.

The system projects a random pattern on a part and captures that patterned image with cameras. It then analyzes the image at subpixel level, finding the differences in gray levels. Using the three cameras for triangulation, a 3D point cloud is reconstructed. Combined with 2D image analysis and propriety algorithms, the WLS qFLASH can extract closed features and edge points/lines without any post processing.

The product also includes a reverse-engineering, image-acquisition mode that uses the sensor system for fast dimensional measurement and reverse engineering.
