The global metal machining industry requires faster, more accurate, and longer lasting hole-cutting tools that are able to deliver high quality.
Hoping to slash hole making times, reduce users’ costs, and improve product quality, Iscar engineers designed several products.
HCP-IQ Sumocham
These drilling heads feature new geometry. Concave cutting edges allow gradual entry into material, a measured penetration that reduces torque and cutting forces, enhances the drill’s self-centering capability, and improves hole circularity, straightness, concentricity, and surface finish to achieve tighter dimensional tolerances.
Available in 8mm to 25.9mm diameters, in 0.1mm increments, HCP-IQ drilling heads enable the use of long drills of up to 12xD, without drilling a pilot hole, and are suitable for drilling precise holes prior to reaming operations.
The HCP drilling heads are made from IC908 TiAlN PVD nano-layer coating grade, providing extended tool life, peeling resistance, and slow, stable wear progression. By eliminating pilot hole operations, the drilling heads lower machining cycle times and remove half of the tools needed.
Sumocham ICP-2M
Designed for ISO P and ISO K materials, Sumocham ICP/K-2M features a secondary rear margin that gives a wiping effect and improves performance. The double margin provides stable drilling and supports interrupted cut and slant hole exit situations.
ICP/K-2M provides hole cylindricity of up to 0.05mm and surface finish of up to 1.6µm Ra. The ICP/K-2M range also offers a solution for pre-hole cutting, prior to reaming operations.
Reaming processes
Tool failure during reaming, often the final process in a machining cycle, can damage the part, and in most cases, scrap it. Iscar offers reaming solutions for the most common hole tolerances (IT5 and up) and has experienced specialists to help customers select appropriate reaming tools for each application.
Depending on the workpiece material, advanced reaming equipment from Iscar can achieve:
- Mean roughness of Ra 0.05µm
- Roundness of 1µm
- Cylindricity of 2µm
Featuring a solid carbide head, flexible steel shank, and secure clamping system, the Bayo T Ream is suitable for IT6 reaming applications.
A frontal indexing system eliminates the need for tool disassembly, ensuring fast setup times. The system has no unnecessary clamping spare parts, so components cannot be lost when indexing.
High cutting feeds and speeds and extended tool life result from PVD coating and the tool’s ability to direct coolant, including oil, emulsion, and minimum quantity lubrication (MQL) to each cutting edge.
The Bayo T Ream system’s single shank can accommodate a wide range of hole diameters, various types of cutting edges, and different grades. A proprietary pocket design is able to take an unlimited number of replacements.
Precision manufacturing is supported by the system’s maximum runout specification of 3μm.
