Seatbelt pre-tensioner system

An active control retractor system (ACR2) for seat belts ties belt pre-tensioners into whole-vehicle safety systems. Combining active and passive approaches offers enhanced safety, comfort, and convenience to vehicle occupants.

ACR2 uses braking and stability control sensor information to recognize critical situations before potential accidents and reacts by helping to secure the driver and passenger by removing seat belt slack. The system also removes slack after the belt is buckled.

ACR2 provides dynamic driving support to keep the driver in a more stable position in the seat during highly dynamic situations and during rapid deceleration.

Chain drive transfer cases

HY-VO chain drives transfer cases are engineered to reduce friction, improve efficiency, and increase fuel economy. BorgWarner developed the next-generation HY-VO chain to help improve fuel economy without increasing noise.

Developed with Toyota, HY-VO chain features optimized tooth geometry with two different tooth shapes designed to reduce noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH). Set in a specific pattern, the links offset noise without the need for the spring links employed in previous designs. Compared with gear drives, HY-VO chain drives offer lower cost, lower noise, improved efficiency, and greater center distance tolerance.

Image recognition processor for in-vehicle camera systems

The expanded TMPV7502XBG image recognition processor offers a small package (11mm × 11mm) and low power consumption (typically 0.6W), and is best suited for use in small-size camera modules. The processor can be applied to driver assistance systems that recognize vehicles and pedestrians in images captured by a vehicle’s rear view monitor or electronic mirror.

CoHOG detection technology as hardware allows faster, more accurate detection. The processor uses image processing accelerators that support recognition of people.

ESD protection

The PESD1CAN electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection diode, for circuit protection in automotive controller area network (CAN) bus lines and other automotive applications, can provide ESD circuit protection of >25kV for a CAN_HI and CAN_LO bus line. It also provides overvoltage circuit protection against other electrical fast transients (EFT).

The PESD1CAN has a rated stand-off voltage of 24.0V, minimum breakdown voltage of 25.4V, and maximum clamping voltage of 70.0V. The PESD1CAN features 200W peak pulse power per line for a typical 8/20µs waveshape. The PESD1CAN is also RoHS and REACH compliant.

It is provided in a molded JEDEC SOT-23 package with an approximate weight of 8mg. It has lead-free pure-tin plating (annealed) and a solder reflow temperature (pure-tin - Sn, 100) of 260°C to 270°C.

Now available in mass quantities, it’s available in 8mm tape and reel, per EIA standard 481.

Vehicle-mounted harsh environment controller

The HEC-P5000 harsh environment controller is a RoHS-compliant, programmable intelligence unit offering a sealed, water-tight enclosure for use on mobile and off-highway equipment.

Based on second generation PLC-on-a-chip technology, the controller is easy to apply and program using the EZ Ladder Toolkit PC-based software. EZ Ladder software parallels the IEC-61131 standard and allows for the creation of custom functions and function blocks. The controller is available with or without a real-time clock, Ethernet, and serial communication ports.

Typical applications:

  • Electro-hydraulic systems
  • Engine-driven pumps, compressors, and generators
  • Material handling
  • Off-road equipment

Compact fuel cell system

The Gen4 air-cooled fuel cell power unit is designed for easy integration into two-wheel and four-wheel vehicles. Developed in collaboration with the Suzuki Motor Corp., the Gen4 incorporates the necessary ancillary components to enable vehicle manufacturers to more easily integrate the system into their products. Rated for continuous operation at 3.9kW and capable of providing in excess of 4kW for short periods, the power unit has been designed as a prime-mover power source for smaller fuel-cell-electric vehicles and also as a range extender for larger vehicles, offering a zero-emission alternative to conventional internal combustion engines and to address range anxiety often experienced with battery-only electric vehicles.
