More than 220,000 people – including 70,000 from outside of Germany – attended Hannover Messe 2015, one of the largest industrial trade shows in the world. The show spotlighted Industry 4.0 – a European term for connected manufacturing, known as the Internet of Things in the U.S.
“Hannover Messe 2015 has made it unmistakably clear: Industry 4.0 has arrived, and is sweeping every sector of industry. Digital integration is becoming a key aspect of modern manufacturing, and this trend is set to continue at a rapid pace,” comments Dr. Jochen Köckler, member of the managing board at Deutsche Messe.
Under the motto of “Integrated Industry – Join the Network”, Hannover Messe 2015 offered a vision of the intelligent factory. In the factory of the future, information will be seamlessly exchanged between machines and products, ensuring optimal results and peak efficiency. According to Köckler, “Industry 4.0 is far more than an inspirational buzzword – it is a reality. For the first time, the smart-factory solutions advertised here can be bought for direct implementation at customers’ plants.”
The next Hannover Messe will be staged from April 25-29, 2016.

Industry 4.0 product releases
Manufacturers and machine-tool producers highlighted new products and processes at Hannover Messe 2015, including several Internet- connected devices that will enable data-rich, remote operation of industrial equipment.
DARC technology turbo-enameling furnace for large components
An alternative to conventional circulating air ovens, DARC is suitable for enameling or curing of powder coatings, cataphoretic paints, and wet paints as well as drying standing water.
Advantages of DARC technology include:
- Higher energy transmission than circulating air
- Lower energy use
- Shorter workpiece heating-up times
- Space-savings from eliminating large holding areas
- Improved coating color fastness
- Simultaneous drying or enameling of different colors

Scalance M876-4
Mobile wireless routers enable users to connect to IP-based end devices. A range of functions include an integrated firewall and end-to-end communication link encryption via VPN tunneling.
The Scalance M876-4 supports IPsec and OpenVPN. It connects to subnets and automation devices via Long Term Evolution (LTE) wireless standard. High bandwidths and transmission speeds allow routers to be used for:
- Industrial remote access solutions, such as teleservice
- Integration of distant substations in energy distribution or water treatment systems
- High-bandwidth applications such as video surveillance
- Integrated 4-port switch
- Support for multiple antennas

Wind turbine planetary gearboxes
A planetary gear of the new generation of 3MW wind turbines is weight- and size-optimized, reducing mass and improving cost effectiveness. New designs minimize downtime, increasing profitable operations.
“We are convinced that there is a significant global demand for renewable energy. Wind power is the most attractive alternative in terms of energy costs and is continuously improving. Therefore, the importance of the Wind Power Technology business unit will continue to grow in the ZF group,” says Wilhelm Rehm, board member at ZF.

India partnership
India served as partner country for Hannover Messe 2015, with more than 400 Indian companies displaying goods and services at the show. India encouraged foreign companies to set up shop there, and urged Indian enterprises to form closer partnerships with German business and industry.
“India put in an impressive performance, here in Hannover and throughout Germany, making ideal use of the opportunities generated by the partner country showcase,” says Dr. Jochen Köckler, member of the Managing Board at Deutsche Messe.
Anupam Shah, chairman of Engineering Export Promotion Council of India (EEPC India) adds, “Indian companies were able to showcase their technical skills, engineering capabilities, and human resources before a global audience. EEPC India, which is the lead agency for India that brought 350 companies of diverse economic scales to display their engineering competence, is truly proud of having undertaken this mammoth task successfully.”
EEPC India signed a memorandum of understanding with BVMW, a German association of small enterprises, as a result of the show.
