Maxwell Industries started in 2006, in Athens, Tennessee. The evolving company custom manufactures hydraulic and fuel tanks for OEMs in various mobile equipment market sectors – mostly material handling, construction, forestry, and utilities.
Maxwell currently employs 38 people and plans to expand in 2015, having experienced double-digit growth since 2009.
CEO R. Scott Underwood describes Maxwell as a low-volume manufacturer with average job sizes in the 1-to-10 unit range. He adds, “It’s all custom work. Our customers send in their designs for each application, and we build to order.”
For the past few years, customer orders have increased from each of Maxwell’s mobile equipment industry sectors. And based on customer comments and what he’s seeing in the economy, Underwood says he expects that growth to continue for the next three-to-five years.
“Our biggest challenge is continuing to grow while sustaining quality and flexibility to our customers’ short lead-times,” Underwood says. He adds that Maxwell has adopted newer software tools to handle growth. “[We’re using] quality system and business software systems to continue to grow support while maintaining flexibility.”
