In this September 28, 2023 Manufacturing Lunch + Learn 2.0 - taking place at 12PM ET - attendees will be able to watch two 30-minute presentations. The first from Emuge, followed by Aerotech. Join for both presentations when you secure your seat today by registering here.
Strategies for Reducing Machining Time, Tools in Challenging 5-axis Aerospace Parts - Emuge
Gaining an understanding of the milling tool options available, as well as strategies for applying them, is key for reducing tool consumption and optimizing 5-axis cycle times. • The latest end mill technologies include ceramic end mills for the high-speed roughing and milling of heat resistant super alloys, producing high metal removal rates in challenging nickel-based alloys, and machining parts 200 to 400% faster than conventional carbide end mills. • Circle Segment applications will also be presented. Circle Segment end mills feature unique design forms with large radii, allowing a much larger axial dept-of-cut during pre-finish and finishing in 5-axis applications, generating cycle time reductions of up to 90%. • Options for cutting and polishing in one operation to produce mirror finishes in non-ferrous materials, saving significant time and costs will be reviewed. And, critical for application success, tips for selecting the optimal toolholder will be discussed.
Cylindrical Laser Processing of Medical Devices - Aerotech
Laser processing has been used for decades to manufacture tubular medical devices, such as stents, valves, and vascular grafts. However, achieving the precision that is necessary for high-volume production is challenging. Travis will address: • Machine design fundamentals that can drastically affect throughput and quality • Control techniques that get the most out of a given machine • Laser coordination techniques to uncouple material processing quality from motion optimization Learn how to assess machine designs from different vendors and/or improve their own designs. They’ll learn which control features they could use on their own to get the most out of existing machines on the floor.
